Abstract
A three-dimensional finite element model for oil perforating charge was established. LS-DYNA was used to numerically simulate formation and fracture of the perforating jet, as well as its pressure and velocity in the process. Simulated results showed that the time of jet formation is 33.997 μs; the source of jet formation is located at position with maximum pressure and the velocity of the jet never continues increasing after the maximum pressure. Velocity gradient is the major cause of jet fracture because it could lead to neighboring jet elements generating relative displacement.
