Abstract
In order to study the penetration performance, penetration speed limit and mass loss of the projectile under the high-speed impact conditions, the normal high-speed penetration model tests were carried out through the projectiles with the different head shapes on the high-speed ballistic gun. The maximum speed of projectile reached 1 420 m/s. Through the test, the relationship between the penetration depth and penetration velocity was obtained. The results show that with the increase projectile velocity, trajectory stability is degraded and projectile head erosion aggravated. When the projectiles initial velocity is greater than the speed limit, projectiles occur bending failure, and the penetration depth declines. The head shape of projectile has obvious effects on the bending, head erosion and penetration depth.
