Abstract
The chemical constituent of <em<Cassia occidentalis</em< is studied in this work. The compounds were isolated by column chromatography on silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and recrystallization. Their structures were determined on the basis of physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic methods such as <sup<1</sup<H-NMR and <sup<13</sup<C-NMR. Five compounds were isolated from the chloroform fraction of 95% ethanolic extract of <em<Cassia occidentalis</em< seeds. They were identified as physcion (1); stigmasterol (2); 5,7'-biphyscion (3); monopalmitin (4); stigmasterol-3-<em<β-D</em<-glucopyranoside(5), respectively. The last three compounds (3,4 and 5) are isolated from the <em<Cassia occidentalis</em< for the first time.
