A Multiple Velocity Difference Model of Traffic Flow with Following Vehicle

  • Considering the influence of the following car, an extension of a multiple velocity difference model is proposed to improve the stability of traffic flow. Stability condition of the new model is obtained by using linear stability theory method. Its result shows that the critical sensitivity coefficient is reduced and the stability of traffic flow is enhanced. Simulation is carried out with identical disturbance, and the simulated results indicate that the final traffic state of FVD model is congested traffic flow after t=300 s. However, the disturbance can be absorbed quickly in the new model and traffic flow becomes free flow state.
