Numerical Simulation of the Process of Laser Induced Incandescence

  • The model of laser induced incandescence(LII) technique is established in this research. It plays an essential role in inferring the primary soot particle size. The variations of the particle size and temperature during heating process were calculated. The effects of factors, such as laser wavelength, laser fluence and initial diameter of the particles, on the heating process were then investigated. It was found that, the laser wavelength of 532 nm was to be a better choice, the laser fluence had a significant effect on the process and the particle temperature decay rate could be used to infer the primary particle size. The presented model and simulation results would be very useful for applications of LII to deduce soot particle size.
