A Study on Prediction Approach of the Workpieces Face Milling Deformation

  • Studies the prediction approach of workpiece in face milling deformation. Combining the analytical method and finite element method, a finite element model for 3D milling process is set up considering the primary factors to the workpieces deformation. An effective algorithm of equivalent load and discrete process is proposed to put the transient cutting force and cutting heat on the finite element model. And through the indirect thermo-mechanical coupled finite element method, the milling process is simulated. The behavior of deformation of the complex workpiece under the effects of cutting force and cutting heat is thus predicted. By comparison of the analysis with that of simulation, the feasibility and validity of the proposed prediction approach were verified.
