Bioremediation of TNT-Contaminated Soil in Slurry

  • An aerobic bacteria named S strain is isolated from a military plant discharge sewage due to its high trinitrotoluene(TNT)-degradation capacity, and the bioremediation of S strain on TNT-polluted soil in slurry was studied. The results showed that higher inoculation concentration is needed for the dominant growth of S strain and the efficient soil bioremediation. Glucose addition greatly enhanced the TNT removal from slurry. The soil bioremediation efficiency increased with increasing TNT concentration. Bioremediation efficiencies were also promoted evidently by adding acetone due to desorption of TNT from soil and the increase in TNT availability by S strain.
