Effect of Different Stern and Tail Sectional Shape to Extended Range Guided Munition Drag Characteristics

  • Based on three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations closed with Spalart-Allmaras(S-A) turbulence model, the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) numerical simulation was used to investigate the drag characteristics of extended range guided munition(ERGM) having different stern and tail sectional shapes.Through simulation the flow field structures and computational aerodynamic characteristics were obtained. The results showed that thickness of tails and radius of tail section were important to impress the drag characteristics will provide evidence to analyze the drag characteristics and the results will provide evidence to optimize the configuration of ERGM in engineering design.
