Quasistatic Mechanical Properties of 3D-Net SiC/Zr-Based Amorphous Matrix Composites at Room Temperature

  • The deformation and fracture behaviors of 3D-net SiC/Zr-based amorphous matrix composites have been investigated with the WDW-E100D testing machine and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) under monaxial compression at room temperature. It is found that, the compressive strength of the composites reaches 1?270?MPa.Under compressive loading, the samples exhibit elastic deformation followed by catastrophic failure without obvious yielding. The mode of failure of the composites is a mixture combining splitting and shear fracture. The 3D-net ceramic is the dominating cell bearing the weight;the microcosmic failure mechanical are typical cleavage fracture of 3D-net SiC,and inhomogenous flow deformation of amorphous alloys viscous flow traces, vein patterns and localized melting can be seen on the fracture surface of the amorphous alloys matrix.
