One-Step Catalytic Synthesis of Dimethyl Carbonate Using Magnesium-Aluminum Oxide

  • Magnesium-aluminum oxide was obtained from the calcination of magnesium-aluminum hydrotalcite.Magnesium-aluminum oxide thus obtained was used as the catalyst for one-step synthesis of dimethyl carbonate(DMC),propylene carbonate(PC) and propylene glycol(PG),from the reaction of propylene oxide(PO),carbon dioxide and methanol.Calcination temperature of 773 K and a Mg/Al molar ratio of 8 gave the best catalyst for this reaction.Under the reaction conditions of T=433 K,p=6 MPa,10 h,the PO conversion reached 100% and DMC selectivity reached 20.20%.
