Genetic Algorithm for the Optimal Power Configuration in CDMA

  • In view of the unsatisfactory quality of manually configured power of base station in CDMA network planning, an optimization algorithm that automatically determines the optimal power configuration of base station using genetic approach is presented in this paper. Real-valued multi-individual chromosome is used to represent the transmission powers of all base stations. A weighted objective function is designed for the purpose of performing the cell planning effectively according to coverage ratio, handoff ratio and cost drawn from the forward coverage analysis of the CDMA system. The convergent curves of objective value and graphical results from a practical planning project prove that the algorithm enables to find a near optimal transmit power configuration scheme for base station.
