Description of Polarized Light Using Group Theory: Relationship of Correspondance Between Matrices and Group Theory

  • Relationships between the Jones matrix, Mueller matrix and Poincaré sphere--three polarization calculus methods and the group theory for transparent and partially transparent polarized light systems are discussed. Relationship between dichroism or circular dichroism and Lorentz transformation is built up. Thus it is shown that a basis can be set up using the group theory calculus for the polarized light.
