Abstract
The electric conductivity of cement specimens with imbedded carbon fibers with or without metallic coating was studied under different pressures, and the possibility of such specimens being used as intelligenet cement was explored. Cement specimens containing carbon fibers and metal coated carbon fibers of different composition and length were made, tested and analyzed. The resistance of specimens was found to change regularly when subjected pressure. In particular, specimens with coated carbon fibers were found to be more sensitive than those with plain carbon fibers. This showed the effect of closure and opening of original cracks. With these characteristics, cement similarly imbedded is expected to be suitable for use as a kind of intelligent material.
