New Method for Preparation of o-Halobenzeneacetic Acids from o-Nitrotoluene

o- Nitrobenzeneacetic acid was prepared by condensation of o-nitrotoluene wlth dlethyl oxalate, hydrolysis and oxldation. It was further converted to o halobenzeneacetic acids by reduction, diazonation and Sandmeyer reaction. O halobenzeneacetic acids have been prepared from cheap raw material o-nitrotoluene with satisfactory results, a new method was prov1ded for preparing o halobenzeneacetic acids.
