An XPS Study of Polyester - Polyether Multiblock Copolymers

  • Of a series of PET-PTMO multiblock copolymers the enrichment of the soft segment PTMO was revealed by XPS . It is evident that the extent of the enrichment of the soft segment in the surface layer (< 5 nm)depends mainly upon several factors, such as the content, the molecular weight of the soft segment and the solvents used for casting the polymeric film .It turns out that the microphase segregation in terms of the paramenter R reaches its maximal at 24.1 Wt % hard segment. The higher the molecular weight of the soft segment, the greater the PTMO content in the surface layer, and the better the solubility power of the solvent used for casting the polymeric film, the more the enrichment in the surface region during processing .
