CALCULATION AND MEASUREMENT OF THE Q FACTOR OF AN OPEN RESONATOR

Q factor of an open resonator is determined by the diffraction loss, reflection loss and external loss introduced by coupling as a whole.The related curves, calculating formulae for these three losses and their corresponding Q factors are given. Experiments show that the heoretical analyses are basically correct. A simple and convenient method to measure Q factor of an open resonator is also given.
