AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FILM THICKNESS AND TRACTION OF GREASES IN ELASTOHYDRODYNAMIC LUBRICATION

The film thickness of greases in EHL is measured by means of reluctance-technique and the traction between two discs is measured simultaneously. These may be characterized by a progressive increase in traction and a gradual decrease in film thickness with time. As existing assumptions fail to accomodate the experimental results, rheological properties of greases seem to be the appropriate explanation to the phenomena
