PHOTOELASTIC STRESS ANALYSIS FOR A LARGE SIZED PIPELINE

Abstract
In this paper is introduced pbotoelastic stress analysis procedures for a large sized pipeline used in an underground water supply system.The stress distribution on the periphery in the pipeline section and that of selected sections are studied under the given conditions by simultaneously considering the weight of earth refill, Water pressure in the pipeline, the water permeating the ground outside the pipeline and the dead load of the pipeline. Centrifugal loading and freezing method were adopted at medium temperature. Similitude between the model and the prototype in the experiment is satisfactorily attained replacing the disk by simply supported beam, the problem of determination of material fringe value is well resolved when the enlargement factor of the load is low.Also discussed are the methods of stress analysis and bending moment calculation.
