Abstract:
Using a statistical method of high-value patent and raw data from PATSTAT,this paper calculates the clean and dirty innovation level of different countries,in terms of technologies in fields of car,fuel,lighting and energy production. This paper then investigates the impacts of clean and dirty technological innovation on carbon intensity,by using a panel data of 15 economies from 1996 to 2011. The results show that,there are increasing trends of levels of China's clean and dirty technological innovation,the impacts of different types of technology on carbon intensity are heterogeneous. Specifically,clean technological innovation has a significant negative effect on carbon intensity,whereas dirty innovation has a positive effect,and the change of carbon intensity is more sensitive to dirty innovation.
